Schweizerischer Pool für Erdbebendeckung (SPE)
Description Schweizerischer Pool für Erdbebendeckung
The Swiss Pool for Earth Coverage ( SPE ) was founded on the initiative of those cantonal building insurances ( PTEs ) which did not have compulsory earthquake insurance . In the event of an earthquake, he provides his members with max. CHF 2 billion is available for claims settlement. Although earthquakes are rare in Switzerland, they have great potential for damage as a natural phenomenon.
In the event of an earthquake, the Swiss Pool for Earth Coverage (SPE) will provide up to two times CHF 2 billion per calendar year. As a result, the affected cantonal building insurances have the option of settling at least part of the damage in the event of heavy events, thus supporting the building owners concerned. However, this protection is barely sufficient in a severe quake. Therefore, the SPE is also committed to compulsory earthquake insurance.

News and Events
In 2017, work on an intercantonal concordat earthquake insurance ( IKEV ) was advanced. On behalf of the Preparatory Commission of the Council of States and the Conference of Cantonal Governments ( KdK ), the Intergovernmental Conference Military, Civil Defense and Fire Brigade ( RK MZF ) has pushed this project forward. Cantonal governments have received a corresponding proposal. However, this was not a majority. The CCG can not successfully complete this project, consequently. The definitive assessment is now the responsibility of the Council of States. In summary, it must be stated that the introduction of comprehensive compulsory earthquake insurance has thus become a long way off.
